You guys, I’ve been a real Haim mood lately. Which isn’t normal at all but right now I’m totally digging it. When I worked at Nous we used their tracks for like half the model videos so I feel like I’ve heard their music a million times. But just hearing something new from them - it’s awesome. 

Anyways, here’s the newest single from their upcoming album, Something To Tell You, scheduled to drop on July 7th.  I just love the rawness of it. The vocals, the drumming, the f-bomb at the end. Haha. 

They’re scheduled to appear on SNL this weekend. I’m pretty sure it’s going to be great but I’m mostly pumped for more of Este’s awesome facial expressions. Anyways, they’ll most likely introduce a couple other new songs just like this one: Want You Back. This one is also great.

Hey party people. It’s been a long while, hasn’t it? Sorry I’ve been super MIA lately. I kind of fell by the wayside but I’ve been meaning to make a comeback. I’ll have to catch y’all up soon with some sort of backlog post. But for now we’ll start off slow with five things that are going on right now: 

1  I’VE BEEN SUPER RETRO LATELY - My Netflix choices and Pandora stations have been real interesting as of late. It all started with the CNN Decades Docuseries where I basically learned SO MUCH about everything. They have episodes dedicated to TV and music and politics and things that were relevant to that particular decade. OMG it was so fascinating. Civil rights movements in the 60’s. Cults and crimes in the 70’s. AIDS epidemic in the 80’s. My mind was just like blown away by all the info. And in a way it felt like all the dots were connecting. 

Anyways, all the coverage they had on old TV shows and music made me want to check it all out. So I’ve been watching The Wonder Years and Party of Five on Netflix and just listening to a ton of 60’s folk music and 70’s lite rock music. 

It’s crazy because I’m really enjoying it. Maybe it’s just a phase - I go through phases like this. But for now, I have a newfound respect for all things retro. 

I cannot wait for them to come out with a 90’s decades series. I’m going to eat that up. I LOVE THE 90’s.

2  YOU GUYS. THE FLASH. HOLY EFF.  It’s no lie that the CW has been killin it. I mean, I pretty much am a die hard fan of all their shows but I feel like The Flash is probably the best one out of the bunch. But this reveal on tonight’s episode - OMG. Did anyone else see that coming??

3  GUEST PASS FAUX PAS - In other news, I completely forgot to use my guest pass my aunt gave me to use for an Alaska Airlines flight. I thought I had six months to use it but I was mad wrong. 

Sigh. There goes my getaway trip to Maui or NYC or wherever. Home to Seattle would’ve been nice too. I mean, tulips are happening right now. Those are my favorite.

4  CRISIS AVERTED / WRITERS GUILD HAS STRUCK A DEAL - So according to Twitter (because that’s where I sometimes get my news), as of a week ago there was a possible writers strike underfoot. Now the last time we had a writers strike, it didn’t bother me much because I was far off in Oklahoma where I knew no one in the industry. But now that I live in LA, it’s a completely different story. This whole city is made up of people who live and breathe Hollywood and so I can’t even imagine what it would be like if it all shut down. 

But as of this morning they have struck up a deal and we’ve all somehow dodged a bullet. It’s so weird because the WGA used to be one of my clients and I sat in on all sorts of panels and lectures for some of the best writers in the industry. The storytelling that they do is just phenomenal. And I thank them for what they do. But it would have been hard on everyone else along the line if they actually went on with the strike. 

But we’re good now. The 100th episode of The Walking Dead is safe, y’all. And so is everyone’s jobs.

5  SPEAKING OF WRITERS … FOXY ROXY LANDED A BOOK DEAL - Hey! My good friend Roxy just landed a two-book deal from Baker Publishing. This has been waiting in the wings for awhile now and I’m PUMPED for her! 

After years of being editorial director extraordinaire, she actually gets to tell her story. Oh man. I cannot wait to add her titles to my CURRENT READS collection. Not one but TWO books. I’m going to get signed copies, right Rox?

what’s making me happy this week?

This music video from Switchfoot. I don’t know if you know this, but Switchfoot is my all time favorite band and no other music has ministered to my soul like theirs. I love the sound, the song, the lyrics, the story behind it all. I love the way Jon Foreman writes. I love his voice. I sort of love him. Bwahaha! But no seriously, I love this band and they are about to release a new record. But this particular acoustic song just really got me.

Honestly, I didn’t even watch this video before I posted it. I just knew that it came out and it had to be good. So obviously I had to go with Adele for this week’s music share.  

So this is the newest single from Adele’s upcoming album, 25.

If her first two albums (19 and 21) can attest to anything, it’s that she writes and sings from a very personal place.

“My last record was a break-up record, and if I had to label this one, I would call it a make-up record. Making up for lost time.
