MONDAY MUSIC SHARE: Beirut: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Awhile ago I watched the “Rich” episode of Skins (6x02) and I remember it being so good. The story line, the acting, the music … so good. Anyways. I looked up the soundtrack and found this Beirut song that I really liked. That connected me to this NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

In studio concerts are always the best … we used to always have them at RELEVANT. Man I miss those days.

Anyways.  I love this episode.  Rich & Grace forever!

Enjoy the music sesh :)

Linus Bikes

So yesterday I was doing my browsing on LinkedIn. Found a couple places to apply for jobs, and I came across a bike company called LINUS. Let me just say these bikes are beautiful. And I want one.

I haven’t had a car in almost two years. I’ve seemed to manage fine without one and LA’s traffic and gas prices make me kind of happy that I don’t have one still. But if I had a bike, I think I’d be totally fine getting around and about.

Especially if it was a hot one like the one pictured above. That one is a Mixte 3. Throw on a couple accessories and I’d be good to go!

Anyways - here’s hoping for a job soon. But I still had to rave about the bike. Maybe that’s just the my inner hipster wanting to speak up. I never did get to do Critical Mass. One day I will. My friend Isaiah would be very proud of me.

Ok.  Bye for now!

5 Things Tuesday

This last week was the first non-wedding/family related week in California. So I guess this is what normalcy will be like for awhile. Here’s how it’s been so far:

1  IN GREAT COMPANY - Since moving here I have been surrounded by great people. I have family here, which makes things a lot easier but they’re all sort of far away. And me being without a car makes things difficult to see them. But I have good friends in the area. Had a night out with the roommates and a weekend with some HA alumni. It’s so weird how many people are around here. But it’s so good to catch up with each of them.It makes such a huge difference to be around people you know when you get to a new place.

2  CHURCH / REALITY LA - So my real good friends, Danny and Rochelle, took me to their church in Hollywood. And right away I saw another alumni, Luis Villafranca. How exciting! Besides seeing Luis in Greek awhile back, I haven’t seen this kid in years. So that was kind of cool to catch up.

Anyways, church was REALLY good and I’m glad to have gone. It’s kind of nice when you find a church right away. And it’s built on community, so that’s good. I’m ready to jump in a small group and get going. It seems like a great place to make friends. It’s kind of a young, hipster church - which is what I’m comfortable with (I came from Florida, capital of hipster people).

3  GLEE STEPS AND DUNDER MIFFLIN - LA is saturated with the entertainment industry, which is all new and fascinating to me. I love TV and it’s so weird being surrounded by other people who love it as much as I do. But anyways, the church that I went to is actually held at a high school here. And I walked in and was like “these are Glee’s steps … it has to be.”

And It’s been confirmed. That same high school is where Glee is filmed at. So crazy. Not only that, my friends live down the street from Dunder Mifflin. So weird!

4  IN-N-OUT BURGER - After church my friends took me to a little place called In-N-Out Burger. It was my first time going, which I don’t know why since I grew up visiting California all the time. Anyways, it was delicious and I took an Instagram pic of it and tons of people commented on it. So weird that that’s what was most popular out of my posts.

5  IT’S FAT TUESDAY YO - And I’m bouts to get some pancakes. I still got a bit of southern girl in me. So my roommate and I will probably walk over to IHOP and order a stack.

I haven’t decided if I’m giving up anything for Lent. The last two years I have. I didn’t grow up observing Advent or Lent (besides the Advent chocolate calendar), but I’m starting to do so. It’s a good thing I’m checking out a new small group tomorrow night for Ash Wednesday. We’ll see what happens.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK FOLKS!

MONDAY MUSIC SHARE: Bon Iver at AIR Studios (4AD/Jagjaguwar Session)

I love music sessions like this one.  I thought it was only going to be one song, but it ended up being like a full blown out session.  Lovely.

Bon Iver, winner of 2 Grammys this year (including best new artist), was rememberable for two things last week - giving an amazingly awkward acceptance speech and starting the Twitter trend for “Who is Bonny Bear?”

Hilarious.  Kind of like when people freaked out about Arcade Fire last year.  There’s a lot of good music out there folks … you just haven’t heard it yet.

Anyways.  Watch the session.  And you’ll see why he won those Grammy’s after all.

5 Things Tuesday

Hello friends.  How was your weekend?  Mine was jam-packed with family goodness.  My cousin got married so it was a Garcia reunion of sorts.  It was a TON of fun though!  I’m glad I came.

Anyways - here’s 5 things going on in my life right now:

1  SITTING NEXT TO A FAMOUS PERSON ON AN AIRPLANE - So on the way to LAX I happen to grab the seat next to a big Hawaiian guy.  It was the type of situation where he needed two seats and I got the aisle seat.  No big.

I sometimes have small friendly chats with whoever sits next to me, and that’s what happened with this guy.  We talked about life and work and all that good stuff in between.  I told him how I was going to my cousin’s wedding and I told him what I did for work.  And so I returned the question … and he told me he was an actor.  And I was like “oh, on what?”

Apparently I sat next to a guy who is on the show Hawaii 5-O.  I had no clue because I never watched it, but he’s a pretty notable character on the show.  It was just so weird because I never would have noticed that, but there was another passenger that stopped by to say that she loved his show.  It was so weird!

I’ve met certain celebrities and bands over time, but I never had this happen before.  It’d totally be a different case if they sat me next to an actor from a show I do watch … but still this was pretty cool.  He was super nice!  And that’s always a plus with famous people.

2  STARTING OVER FOR THE NTH TIME - So I took a leap of faith and decided to move to the SoCal area.  It sort of make sense in my head since I really needed a change.  So I prayed for a long while as to where to go and this is where the Lord led me.

I’m still adjusting to everything and I don’t have much.  But at least everything is walking distance, so I think can manage for a bit.  I can still work at SEOperks (which is awesome) but I’m hoping to find something more full time in the area.  Please pray for me!

3  I JUST REALIZED TODAY IS VALENTINES DAY - Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  I’ll be spending today with my roommates, most likely eating ice cream and watching movies at home.

Cheers to everyone else who has loved ones to share the joy with!  As for me, I forgot … life was busy.  But oh well.  Happiness for all :)

A music video:

4  MEETING ALL THE COUSINS - So it’s been a goal on my Bucket List to meet all my cousins.  And over the years, it’s been done.  With visiting the Philippines while growing up and going to California to spend time with aunts and uncles, I’ve been able to meet almost all 64 of my cousins.

Yes.  64 cousins.

The only exception was not being able to meet one set of siblings who live out in DC.  And about two years ago, I had the chance to meet Eddie and Stephanie.  But every time I tried to connect with the last two in DC, it just never worked out.

Well, I finally got to meet them this week - Samantha and Trisha.  Up until now they’ve just been Facebook friends but now I actually know them.  And that’s pretty awesome.  So I felt cool enough to mark this off my Bucket List, but apparently I forgot to count Mara who lives in Australia.  Looks like I’ll have to make some travel plans :)

5  COUSINS WEDDING / GARCIA FAMILY BLAST - So it was Samantha’s wedding (she’s pictured above on the right) and it was such a blast!  I only get to to see this side of the family so often, but to see everyone all together like this was amazing.  What a celebration!

I took some rad pictures so I’ll make sure to share them in a post soon.  But in the meantime we had some fun with the photo booth!
