MONDAY MUSIC SHARE: Switchfoot’s “Chem 6A” - original music video from 1997

Ok.  So if you know me at all, then you know how much I love Switchfoot.  No.  I LOVE them. Seriously, hands down favorite band.  Usually when I have a bad day, I’ll set my iPod to play just them and I’m on my way to 100x better.  You should have seen me the first time I watched “A Walk To Remember” … that movie was chock full of Switchfoot.  It was like Easter Eggs all over the place.

Anyways.  I’m here putzing away on my computer when my iTunes shuffle randomly plays their very first single “Chem 6A” - and automatically I turn into a 15 year old girl and jam out.  I just had to.

Legend of Chin is such a great album.  So many great songs.

  • “Home”
  • “Might of Ben Hur”
  • “Life, Love, and Why”
  • “Ode to Chin”

Seriously.  This is straight up sophomore in high-school, working at McDonald’s, juggling between Campus Life and PFB Youth Group Jo.  Or in those days I went by Fugi.

[I basically went by the name “Fugi” from 5th grade to senior year of high school.  I’ll save that story for another day.]

Anyways.  This week’s hand-picked song is one of my fav’s.  Maybe in a few weeks, we can fast-forward to grad intern Jo when Beautiful Letdown hit my life.  Dude.  That album revolutionized my life.

LINK LOVE

So if you haven’t heard yet, Seattle’s going through a blizzard of sorts right now.  And I’ve been basically wearing my pajamas for about 6 days straight. It’s all good.  I’m enjoying the the sheer fact that I work from home and that I can totally avoid driving in this weather.

There was snow play.  And cabin fever.  And a power outage.  So now I’m at my grandma’s house … which is nice because I have interwebs again and she feeds us :)

Between my intermittent working hours, I’ve been browsing the web.  And I found a few cool things that I’d like to share.  So here goes it:

  • A funny GIF of one of my favorite scenes in AVPS
  • A music mix from one of my really good friends
  • You can make anything magnetic these days
  • A really awesome small business/entrepreneur/loves God blog
  • A really neat way to decorate a 200 sq. foot apartment
  • An interesting way to do lunch
  • Rachel Bilson is a thug (not safe for little ears)
  • Really cool story about keys
  • Love this interview with Sophia Bush
  • Ok y’all.  Gotta get some work done.  Talk to you later!

    HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND :)

    New Years Resolutions

[when looking for a cover photo I almost went with THIS b/c it was funny … but I decided to stick with the fanciful birds trekking the globe instead]

Here are my New Year’s Resolutions for all of you out there.  I know we’re like 3 weeks in, but you know I wanted to make sure before I rolled it out.  Also, I’ll need your help to keep me in check.  It helps me to write out my goals in order for me to actually conquer them (I accomplished so much in 2011 because of lists!).  So here goes it:

1  REDO’S - Every year these are always at the top on my resolution list.  They are all redo’s because I pretty much fail at them.  The diet & exercise.  Drinking more water.

You have no idea how hard it is for me to leave my hair down.  Seriously!  In 2006 I told my entire wing at ORU (about 20 girls) to keep me accountable for leaving my hair down twice a week.  That didn’t last long.

Anyways.  Here they are.  Repeats.  Will I actually be able to get ahold of these?  I hope so!  I’m making some progress already.

    • wear my hair down more often
    • get my exercise and diet back into check
    • drink more water

2  GO SOMEWHERE I’VE NEVER BEEN BEFORE - I was browsing around on old blog posts and ran across THIS picture from the 365q project.  Still a big fan.  And I’m still waiting to hear about 52 Moments …

Anyways.  I liked this goal:  GO AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR TO A PLACE YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN BEFORE

Last August I actually got to do that.  I went to NYC for the first time.  So this year I have to go somewhere new.  I’m thinking Nashville since I have great friends out there.  Just have to figure out when.

3  RUN SOME RACES - When I was at ORU, we had to run every semester.  A 3 mile test.  So running 5K’s were no big deal.  It seemed like everyone ran 8 miles all the time for kicks or something.  I was not one of those people, but I did make 4 miles a norm in my life back then.

But now.  Not so much.  I’m SUPER out of shape.  But I’m trying.  I’m going to try to get some races under my belt this year.  5K, 10K, half, marathon.  That’s the progression, but I’ll be satisfied with a 10K.  A Disney Half Marathon would be sweet though (it would give me reason to go to FL and visit friends).

4  ACTUALLY DO SOME THINGS ON MY PINTEREST - It’s nice having a simple way to visually catalog things that I like online, but it won’t do me any good unless I TRY some of them.

So this year, that’s what I’m going to do.  I’m going to actually set out to try these recipes, these creative DIY projects, and incorporate some themes I find in photography (like balloons, bikes, or trash the dress sessions).

I imagine it being a really awesome blog series in the future … like “THEIRS / MINE

5  BE A BETTER GIVER - Last year I decided to start sending handwritten cards and packages more.  That was fun.  I’d like to build on top of that and keep the giving spirit going.

I’ve sent Christmas cookie packages and Bestie Day packages in the past.  A dozen handwritten Rifle cards.  A birthday care package to a friend in China.  It feels good to give.

And I’m going to take that one step further.  Leave random big tips at restaurants.  Order stuff on people’s Amazon or Etsy wishlists for them.  Pay for someone else’s coffee in the Starbucks drive through.  Just because.

Here’s a good blog post that I found that really puts the giving/trusting God with money in perspective:  10% / 5% by TJ Mousetis

    5 Things Tuesday

Hello everyone.  It is MAJOR SNOWY up here in the great Northwest.  And it’s beautiful but it makes me all the more thankful that I have a job that I can work from home.  No driving in the snow for me!

Anyways.  Here are 5 Things going on in my life right now.

1  I FROZE MY NAIL POLISH - So the other day my sister and I went to Walmart and I bought two new nail polishes.  I’ve only really used OPI up til now, but I bought Essie just to try.

Anyways, I couldn’t find it for a couple days until I looked in the freezer to pull out my sister’s ice cream.  There they were.  Tied in with the Ben & Jerry’s.  Rock solid.  Luckily they thawed out and now I’m rockin a new home manicure.

2  THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME - there’s been a lot of parodies to the S#IT GIRLS SAY video, but this one is my favorite so far.

Tripp is hilarious.  I also found this video and almost died laughing.  Ridic.

3  JOHN MULANEY’S HAZ SPECIAL - Last summer while in NYC, my sister and I went to the Comedy Cellar and saw a few hilarious people.  One of them happened to be John Mulaney, and I’m not going to lie.  I laughed a WHOLE LOT.

I’m excited because now he’s going to share that gift to the world with his new Comedy Central special (airing January 28th).  The DVR is set.  Also his sophomore album comes out on the 31st.

4  HOOK IS AWESOME - A friend posted on Facebook asking what everyone’s favorite childhood movie was and I answered very quickly with “HOOK!”  And for some reason, my two younger brothers have never seen it.  So obviously, I make them watch it with me.

Dude.  This movie is awesome.  Chock full of great quotes and great moments.

And I didn’t know that the kid that played Jack is the same kid who played the nerd in one of my all time favorite 90’s Teen movie - Can’t Hardly Wait.  I have to add that movie to my “must watch” list ASAP.

5  NEW ITEMS - I added a couple new items to the store.  Make sure to check it out and share with others!  These are my favorite.  The small magnets (although they look HUMONGOUS in this picture).

    More to come!

    PHOTO CHRONICLES (vol. 8)

When I was at ORU I had the greatest brother wing.  Yeah, we had brother/sister wings.  It’s like the moment you get to campus, they’re like “here are your friends for the next couple years.  And if you’re lucky you’ll get to marry one of them.”  Obviously, the latter half didn’t work for me (that only works if you live on Imago … you know it’s true).

Anyways.  My brother wing, Full Armor, was stacked with hot guys.  I’m not even going lie.  And they knew it.  So every August they put that to good use and have what they call the “Sexy Men’s Car Wash” at a local QT Gas Station.

    [I miss QT.]

Anyways.  They would perch themselves at the edge of the road, shirtless, and hold these signs.  So hilarious.  We would drive by so many times honking at them.  Just because.

They probably made a ton of money.

    So great.

Anyways.  I recently came across this pic and I wanted to share it.  The guy pictured above is Jarrod.  He was one of the Hobbits.  Every Thursday was Hug a Hobbit Thursday, so he got a lot of hugs.

    Man.  I miss Full Armor.
